INTERMED CLINICAL ONLINE COURSE GUIDE 2024

LASER STANDARDS

Providing Aesthetic treatments to the general public is not something to be taken lightly – all laser and IPL users have a duty of care to their clients and colleagues under Health and Safety Legislation.

Clients expect their treatments to be safe and wish for successful outcomes. You need to be properly trained to use your equipment safely and successfully by the manufacturer/supplier of your equipment, and also to ensure you complying with local and national guidelines. As of July 2019, the single piece of UK legislation that applies to the use of laser and intense pulsed light is ‘The Control of Artificial Optical Radiation at Work Regulations 2010’. This law came into force in 2010 with the aim to protect workers (and others) from the risks to health from hazardous sources of artificial optical radiation (AOR). Laser and Intense Pulsed Light treatments are specifically described in this legislation and businesses must ensure that they comply with this.

Your local environmental health department and your insurance company should be your first port of call for any advice relating to training and licensing/regulatory requirements.
